Update on my previous review: So a few hours after I published my review below, I received a call from Simon who apologised for all the problems I encountered. Told me that the camera has been shipped yesterday and gave me the DHL tracking number by phone. I checked and that is OK now. He also asked me to change my rating on this website and that if I did so he would send me a free battery. I have changed the rating from 1 star to 3 stars. I will put it up to 4 stars if there is no problem tomorrow with the parcel I receive and if I get the battery as well.
I ordered a Canon 700d on Wed 19/03 with Express delivery (charged 25£ additional compared to Ground delivery). The camera was meant to be delivered 5 working days later in the worst case (2 to 3 days delivery plus 24 to 48 hours to process the order – this detail appears only after you pass the order or if you go through the whole T&Cs, fair enough…). The next day, I received a call to confirm my order. The guy tried to sell me an over-priced battery stating that the one delivered with the camera would only last 30mn. FIRST LIE. I declined politely. The guy then tried to sell ma a SD card, which I declined as well. At this point the salesman attitude changed from very nice to very cold. He told me that my camera will be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday next week. On Monday 24, since I hadn't received any confirmation email, nor tracking number and my bank account hadn't been debited, I called them again. Went through 3 different people before someone was able to deal with my query. A nice lady explained me that there was a small mistake with my order but that she will personally make sure that the camera was shipped in the day. I asked her to call me back in the day to confirm that the good has been shipped. She said yes. Still waiting her call.. SECOND LIE. However my bank account has been debited after my call on Monday. On Tuesday 25 (yesterday) I called them again to check on the status of my order since I still hadn't received any tracking number or emai. The fun part really starts here! When I asked the guy when I will receive my order, he first asked me "It hasn't arrived yet?". When I said no, he told me that it was "shipped yesterday and will arrive tomorrow". THIRD LIE. I asked him the tracking number for the parcel... long silence. The guy then told me that he made a mistake and that the parcel will be shipped tonight and will arrive on Thursday. He also promised me that I will receive the tracking number "tonight". FOURTH LIE, no tracking number received.
So, we are now one week and 4 lies after the order, I paid £39.95 for a 2 to 3 days Express delivery and the camera hasn't been shipped yet. I will update this review when I receive some news from SLRHut.
Ordering went smooth, until it seemd that our Czech address did not fit into the computer systems or so. After we got in touch about that, SLRHut quickly solved the problem and the camera was delivered in 2 days instead of 10!
Firstly I like to point out that I am not in the habit of writing reviews, however in this case I must make an exception. I was wanting to purchase a Digital SLR Camera and having trawled the internet for the best price, I came across SLR Hut which offered me the best price, however two things were putting me off 1 - I'd read some not so good reports of people having had bad experiences with SLR Hut 2 - The company are based in the USA (New York) which meant I possibly could be stung for import taxes - even though their web advertised that NO VAT or Taxes would have to be paid. I'd previously purchased from abroad and even though I was led to believe that I would not incur any, I DID.
Well I went I head and purchased my Nikon Digital SLR Camera from SLR Hut (having spoken to them, and been given re-assurance that I would not incur any VAT or Taxes). In other words the price you pay is the price you pay at the time of ordering. The shipment arrived in the 2 days The delivery was within the specified time, well packaged, however on opening the package there were a couple of issues, and I reported these back to the sales team at SLR Hut, they very apologetic and the sales person I spoke to (Simon) stated he had worked for SLR Hut for approximately seven years and had not had these issues before. He immediately re-assured me this would be rectified and that an express shipment would be made that day, and I would receive it in two days. He again apologized for the inconvenience and could not understand how in the first place it had happened, Simon also stated that the company would look into the matter to see what steps could be taken to prevent a re-occurrence in the future. The replacement items arrived within 2/3 days however one of the parts was non-Nikon. I again had to contact them, and was told they did not carry the item individually and would need to order it in. Eventually I was contacted to say the item (Nikon) had been despatched, and would be with me shortly. So what are my recommendations - Go ahead and purchase from SLR Hut, if things do go wrong , which I suppose can do from time to time no matter who you are dealing with. SLRHut do their level best to rectify matters, also you can save yourself quite a lot of money .
I have also received a telephone call from Simon advising me of action being taken to prevent a reoccurrence of the above matters
Some of the staff at SLRHut need to be a little more polite when dealing with customers on the telephone.
I had been looking on line at the various prices for a Canon 6D and was surprised to find this website selling the camera £400 cheaper than anyone else??? I was also looking to buy a decent wide angle lens. I entered the site which I first of all thought wasn't the slickest looking site but carried on regardless. I was gob-smacked by there range and prices and the first thing I thought was this is 'too good to be true' and as most people say "If you think it is too good to be true it usually is"! Anyway I decided to Google the company and get some reviews. This is the site that caught my eye and I saw majority of people gave good reviews, but there were a few negatives. To be fair to SLR Hut they came back and responded to customers that had problems which impressed me and gave me more confidence. There was something in the back of my mind saying "Don't do it, you'll get burned"! One reviewer said "They are not a British company"!....it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out they are American on the site? I was itchy about doing it as I was going to part with £1400. I reviewed the company again and was convinced they were up front. I took my credit card and sat at the laptop, nervously started the process. Because of the price being so cheap I decided to get a bundle which included 2 x Canon lenses, filters. bag, flash, table tripod, flash drive, memory card, etc. All this for less what the body and the wide angle lens would of cost. I wanted it asap so I clicked express delivery. After it processed my card the invoice came up standard delivery?? I thought it was the start of a bad dream so I called them. Yes they did try and up sell some products and warranty but the guy was really helpful and said he would sort the delivery. "Anything else I can do for you" he said "No I'm fine" I said and with that came the words that turned my stomach....."Good luck"!!!! he said and put the phone down. 'Good luck'? What did he mean. OMG I thought, I'm doomed. The next morning I checked my bank and all seemed fine. They emailed me a tracking number with DHL and I followed it like a Hawk. It took less than two days to arrive locally and I was still waiting to find a box full of disappointment. The courier delivered today and so did SLR Hut! Everything was quality and what I wanted. I can't believe it. I will definitely use them again. No extra fees or taxes. I'm so happy! Thank you SLR Hut what amazing service!!!!!
Canon Camera for > € 1200 was a grey-import with less feauteres. When complaining I was told I could return on my costs - shipping will not be refunded... Hands off from this company !!! Edit: Got a call: Now they want to take back on their own costs. Let's see if this really works fine. Edit2: DHL picked up package - so good for now. Hopefully refunding is fast correct. I will update again... Edit3: one week later: DHL brought packeage back: They didn't deliver documents for customs, so DHL wasn'table to handle shipping backt to USA. After some more annoying mails with their unpolite staff they told me to ship back onmy costs to UK (!) and they would reimburse, so I did. Now I got my refunding on my credit card: Even if there were no big changes in currency exchange rates (GBP to EUR) they refunded about 80 Euro less than I paid. NOTE: As they promised to reimburse complete amount AND my costs for shipping back to UK I should have gotten ~20 Euro MORE than I paid...
SO FINALLY: First they tried to defraud me by delivering another product they offered. Then they defrauded in fact by promising to reimburse ALL costs and didn't. So SLRs intention to defraud did cost me about 100 Euro...
i had order digital camera Nikon D610. Im happy with my order, great quality and value for money ! Idecided to buy with SLRhut, found less price here than in another shops and had good contact with customer service. I didn't have to wait long time for my order. I will recomended SLRhut!
It took a total of 13 days for my order to arrive (9 working days) because of SLRHut's ordering process. Despite choosing the "rush" delivery service (3-5 days) when I ordered on 11th Feb, they didn't even dispatch until 21st Feb (after this, DHL did a great job of delivering from the US to the UK in a mere 3 days).
The reasons it took so long for SLRHut to dispatch were numerous: - They insist that you call their customer services department so that they can try to sell you some extra accessories for your camera before you pay. Not only did I not want an extra battery, but the sales rep flat out lied to me, stating that I would want one because the Canon 6D's included battery lasts "less than half an hour". That kind of thing may pass for innocent marketing spiel in the USA but as far as I'm concerned it's false advertising and I don't expect to have to endure that kind of nonsense when buying online. - My sales rep clearly forgot that this first call happened, because I received an identical email insisting that I call AGAIN before he eventually produced a final invoice so I could pay. - My sales rep insisted that I "must" add shipping insurance to my order which dropped an extra £23.95 onto the amount I was given at checkout. It was never stated that shipping insurance was mandatory at checkout. It's not VAT (as the site promises, there's none to pay) but it was a hidden cost nonetheless which I don't appreciate being added at the last minute, during a phonecall, where I have little or no time to consider it. - The site accepts American Express outright, but doesn't mention at any point that there's an extra fee to pay for this method. They only mention it during their marketing calls. Then you must call their billing department to change to a Visa, further delaying your order.
All in all I saved a couple hundred quid VS buying from the UK. But the incredibly slow and, frankly, rude ordering process is something I don't wish upon anyone. If you're not good with queueing on the phone and dealing with sales reps, steer very clear.
I was slightly wary about buying my Canon 70D from here as the price was so much cheaper than elsewhere, but I needn't have worried: I got a great camera at a fantastic price from a really helpful company.
The order placement process is slightly arduous with the confirmation call (particularly as I had placed my order UK a.m. and had to wait until the New York office opened to receive the call), but once I had convinced the sales assistant I didn't need extra batteries or SD cards and my order was checked, my camera arrived within a matter of days.
I had a slight issue with one one of the filters I had ordered, but having contacted customer services they were really helpful and sorted out a replacement to be sent out there and then.
Overall, I can't fault SlrHut and I'd be happy to use them again when I next buy camera equipment.
I wanted to purchase a new Sony SLR and the price Slrhut offered was by far the best. They had a London phone number as well so easy to contact. I later found out they were based in New York USA but that wasn't an issue. The same day I placed the order on line I had a call from their sales team, trying to sell my a high capacity battery and charger for £69.95. I declined the offer as I already had a Sony camera and spare battery so thought I would be well covered. Then the price reduced to £49.95 for the high capacity battery, charger and express delivery (I'd originally chosen the standard delivery option). So I went for this offer. This was the Tuesday evening. The camera was dispatched by Slrhut on the Thursday and was delivered to me in the UK on the Monday so no complaints about the express delivery, nor the camera itself which was all as it should be. The issue arose, though, around the high capacity battery and charger. Firstly there wasn't any special charger included, just the normal one that comes with the camera. And the battery wasn't special at all. It wasn't a Sony battery but a Vivitar battery - Sony compatible. Reading other reviews on the web, people have found that the Vivitar actually lasts less in usage than a Sony battery, so nothing particularly high capacity about it. When I challenged Slrhut about this I eventually had a travel charger dispatched to me (not particularly needed but it may come in useful) and they gave me a £15 refund. So I basically paid £35 for a Lithium battery, a travel charger and the upgrade to express delivery. So I think my words of advice would be decide what you want and don't let the follow up sales call push you into buying anything else. Camera, price and delivery were great. High capacity battery and charger, not so!.
I purchased 2 Panasonic AGAC160's from SLR Hut for the Cambridge University College I work for. The price was so good I admit I was initially suspicious, as was my accountant. However, we observed due diligence, and John & Tammy at SLR Hut were AMAZING, and put our minds at rest about all of our concerns.
The goods arrived in good time, (despite some payment complications caused our side), and I'm overjoyed with my purchase, especially since it saved our College around £2400!
I too was nervous initally, after reading some of the negative reviews online, but noticed that all of the negative comments were almost all from people who hadn't even placed an order with them! Thing is, when I spoke to them on the phone, I could immediately tell I was dealing with a professional outfit, and the fact that they're based in NY didn't affect or bother me in any way. They were polite, efficient and quick to answer queries. What more can you ask for?
I'll definitely be using them again, and have already been recommending them to friends and colleagues with confidence.
Thanks again to John and Tammy for such great service! You've earned a loyal customer....
It was the time lag between parting with the money and receiving confirmation of dispatch that created the nerves and, added to that the rather abrupt New York telephone manner didn't help allay the fears. Compared to other online vendors like Amazon who shower customers with e-mails and have an account login with order status information, SLRHUT have nothing and for a moment I really thought that I'd have to kiss my £2K goodbye! It was at that time I started reading the (unhelpful) negative online feedback, resulting in my paranoia! However, in the end I received a phone call alerting me to a delay due to an item on my order being out of stock and the offer of splitting the order or sending the whole order on an upgraded DHL service at no extra cost to me. Everything else was fine, the DHL tracking was excellent, the products were packed well and the gear is good. Anyone buying from a non UK dealer should know the deal with the way the warranties work - I've purchased Canon gear in Tokyo and Hong Kong and it has never worried me. It's well worth the saving. I will use SLRHUT again when the need arises, if the price is right. 'All's well that ends well.'
After completing my order, I received a phone call from James saying that I should buy a 5 hour battery fior £29 and I said no. Got another phone call within 5 minutes saying that he would upgrade it to 5 hour battery and 32GB Ultra High Speed SD Card. I have now received my order and the SD card is not ultra high speed.
Great customer service, Great products ...i got 2x Rebel canon cameras and kits , extra lens, memory card, charger, tripods etc , Great Price! .... good communication and fast delivery ! i will use again ,
